THE MOST IRRITATING PHRASES IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Researchers at Oxford University in England took time out from trying to solve the problems of the human race for something really important -- compiling a list of what they call the "most irritating phrases in the English language."
Number one on the list is the phrase "At the end of the day," which researchers say should be replaced by the single word, "finally." Coming in a close second is "fairly unique." Irritated researchers say unique already means "one of a kind."
Here's the complete list, according to Britain's
Daily Telegraph
newspaper:
1. "At the end of the day"
2. "Fairly unique"
3. "I personally"
4. "At this moment in time"
5. "With all due respect"
6. "Absolutely"
7. "It's a nightmare"
8. "Shouldn't of"
9. "24/7"
10. "It's not rocket science"
