A cafe/ bakery in Kitchener trusts their customers to pay honestly without a casheir presence...

This surprised me.  During a time that people are willing to jump on an opportunity to make a buck at someone elses expense and (after working in retail I know) argue over dust on clothing at a busy department store for a nominal 10% discount... I was surprised that there are enough trustworthy citizens to run a business this way.  At the same time it gave me a little hope for the world.

With game shows to prove your honesty and more policies than ever to secure assets, it makes me wonder why society is deemed so indulgent and untrustworthy.  Is it the thrill of what we can get away with by taking longer lunch breaks or taking an extra cookie at the staff potluck without paying...
