I’m thinking of throwing a wedding party.  

I am not getting married, but a lot of money was spent on a gorgeous, designer gown that I got to wear for one day and part of one night.    

Talking with some girlfriends the other day, and some have a collection of ugly taffeta bridesmaid dresses that will never be worn again either.   

It is up for debate whether spending more than a months paycheque on a dress you’re going to wear for 12 hours is a waste.  Right or wrong, many little girls picture themselves one day in a big white dress, and for many that moment is priceless. 

It is easy to say in our 30’s and 40’s that if we ever do it all again, we will do it differently.  That doesn't change the fact that there’s still a very expensive and big, white dress sitting in a trunk in my attic. 

Whether its a wedding dress, or a bridesmaid dress or a old dress worn to a wedding, my friends and I are going to party in them.  We will eat and drink and spill red wine on them. 

At the end of the night, we are going to take them off, and burn them.  

A wedding dress is too beautiful to be worn only once, and wearing the same dress to your second wedding is a little tacky.  This idea is a lot more fun than just selling it.    

The dress meant something at one time, and it does represent the dream.  Something that beautiful really deserves a proper sendoff, as opposed to being eaten by moths in an attic ...
